MSNLive_star is Joe, btw - it was short but pretty cool!
DishDiva says: Welcome to MSN Live! This afternoon we are pleased to welcome guitarist Joe Perry who has a brand new solo project out.
DishDiva says: Joe, we have fans here from around the world.
DishDiva says: Let's see what the audience is asking. . .
MSNLive_Star says: Thank you all for tuning in. I haven't done that many of these, so I'm really looking forward to being in touch with people who are interested in what I'm doing. Thanks for joining up!
AeroLouieLou1 in Onstage_1 asks: Being a left handed guitarist myself, I found it impossible to play right handed. How did you adjust to it?
MSNLive_Star says: I just made myself do it. I didn't know it was a possibility to play it the other way. I have had experience with other instruments, namely piano and clarinet. My first guitar came with a record (45 rpm disk) which instructed me to put the neck in my left
MSNLive_Star says: and the pick in my right. Instinctively I wanted to play it the other way, but I followed the instructions. I was only 13 and just did it that way. It wasn't until I saw Paul McCartney playing it the other way that made me realize I could have. I just
MSNLive_Star says: was used to it by then and continued that way.
DDGLiz1 in Onstage_1 asks: Liz from PA - When you recorded "Joe Perry", what guitar did you use most?
MSNLive_Star says: I used the Billie Guitar most, the one with my wife's picture on it. It seemed to be the best combination of the Gibson sound and the ability to go into distortion fairly easy. Plus I loved the way it looked.
PorchGhoul in Onstage_1 asks: Was any consideration given to covering "Red House" for Bobo or Joe Perry?
MSNLive_Star says: Yes, it was but I felt that because this record we made for our hard core fans, and I had played that song so many times live, I felt that I would have rather have the fans hear something different.
Aerobone in Onstage_1 asks: Did you wrote all songs from Joe Perry alone (except those two covers)?
MSNLive_Star says: I was also considering not putting on "Playing Around" on the record for the same reason, however fan mail convinced me otherwise.
MSNLive_Star says: Yes. I wrote all the music and lyrics.
aerogirl_78 in Onstage_1 asks: why did you wait so long to try another "solo effort"?
MSNLive_Star says: It was a matter of finding the time to finish it and put it out. I wanted to give it enough time that I could give it my full attention and this year during the Aerosmith "Hiatus" was the perfect time and I had the material.
Manderz21403 in Onstage_1 asks: I reacently heard Pray for me from your new CD any other Ballads?
MSNLive_Star says: There are, there's one instrumental ballad that will sound amazing in 5.1 surround. Also "Ten Years" which I wrote for my wife, and a few more mellow songs on the record.
DishDiva says: Well, Joe we have hundreds if not thousnads of this next question:
Aeroguns86 in Onstage_1 asks: Are you planning on touring in support of your solo album?
GotMyWings86 in Onstage_1 asks: Are you considering doing a solo tour?
MSNLive_Star says: As much as I would love to do that in the near future, unfortunately I'm not going to have time. Aerosmith is gearing up to go on the road again and do a live record. I'll be on Connan O'Brian on the 6th or 7th and live on XM radio and Serius radio. Other
8Thank you! Our guest has received your question and will make every effort to answer it. However, due to the large number of questions submitted, not all questions can be answered.
MSNLive_Star says: than that I'll be doing one live event at Webster Hall with Audley Freed from the Black Crows, Paul Caruso on drums, and Charlie Drayton.
MSNLive_Star says: We'll be at Webster Hall on Thursday the 5th and Conan is the same day, not the 6th.
rockndrummer42 in Onstage_1 asks: How much influence do the Doors have on your music?
MSNLive_Star says: It was not only a big influence on my music but also my attitude and political leanings. That was the soundtrack of my youth in the late 60s, it was more of a lifestyle thing. (laughs)
NickJFINE in Onstage_1 asks: I'm interested in your Boneyard Signature guitar, it looks great, is it a limited run?
MSNLive_Star says: No, it's not, it's in production now and there's an epiphone version and I renewed my contract with Gibson.
musickluvr5150 in Onstage_1 asks: Any plans to sell your hot sauce in commercial stores, or are we gonna have to settle for getting it on-line?
MSNLive_Star says: Right now we're working on getting it into some more main stream outlets. If you live in the Northeast you can find it at Newberry Comics or Stop and Shop or The Hardrock Cafe.
HonkinOnJP in Onstage_1 asks: Joe, I've listened to the clips of your CD and I love it. What was behind Talk Talkin'? I really like the sounds of that one.
MSNLive_Star says: That particular one was one of the few that were recorded live with Paul Caruso on drums because we wanted to give it that great feel. We went to great lengths to make it sound like a live band playing in the middle of a party.
STylerFreak65 in Onstage_1 asks: Stacey From FL - What is your favorite song to play live?
MSNLive_Star says: "Draw The Line" because I love it after the guitar solo and Steven comes back with that high insane verse. I always get goose bumps.
I_Ate_The_Rich in Onstage_1 asks: Which aerosmith song would you say stretched your guitar playing to the limits the most? - Taimur from Karachi, Pakistan
motleysam in Onstage_1 asks: Whats you're favourtie song to preform live?
MSNLive_Star says: It's one that I played, that we don't play live very often, it's called "Amazing" and the solo at the end, because of wanting to build the tension over the final part of the song, I had to play with a flurry that I had to keep sustaining and it was really
MSNLive_Star says: hard to keep that level of intensity up, when I was recording it, I had to work really hard to feel the way I had the vision in my head. When we played it live on that tour it was a real high point for me.
ignat_from_belorus in Onstage_1 asks: What music have changed Your life?
MSNLive_Star says: Well, I guess a lot of music has influenced me over the years but obviously rock and roll has not only been a way to make a living but a way to sustain myself through the highs and lows of existence on this planet for me.
MSNLive_Star says: Most recently rediscovering my roots when I did the research for "Honkin' on Bobo" and rediscovered the music I love.
Jimangiesmokie1 in Onstage_1 asks: Do you think you'll ever do any more acting roles? You were great on Homicide.
MSNLive_Star says: Thanks very much for that. It's more a problem of finding time to do it. Aerosmith is a full time job. I've gotten job offers to do different things, but they seldom fall during times I'm not busy. Doing tv shows, they want you to block out a couple of
MSNLive_Star says: weeks even though they only want you a couple of days. Believe it or not it's hard for me even to do that.
SeasonsOW in Onstage_1 asks: How was the writing process different for your solo album as oppossed to writing with Steven for Aerosmith?
MSNLive_Star says: Basically I had to kind of envision myself playing different roles in the process. I usually started with my main strength, playing guitar, and then filled in the blanks with the other stuff.
MSNLive_Star says: It was a fast process that is a different way than I work with Steven where we jam and develop the parts slowly. I would jump from guitar to bass, to rhythem, to vocals, and back to bass. Playing all the different parts in an afternoon or evening.
Angeline0107 in Onstage_1 asks: I love that you have a picture of Billie on your guitar. Would you say she has been the greatest influence on your life?
MSNLive_Star says: Certainly. I have found, as you get the album, I put a thank you on there that says it all. I haven't just found my soul mate and partner for live, she's an artist, painter, and poet herself and has been a great influence and support for me.
tetsuya_from_aerosmile in Onstage_1 asks: I would like to know about your guitars and Amps! What guitars and amps are perfect for you?
MSNLive_Star says: As you might imagine because I keep a fairly comprehensive cross section of guitars and amps in my studio I tend to use a variety when I'm working on a record like that. So I have used a lot of different amps as well as guitar. I mostly use the Billie
MSNLive_Star says: guitar and lean the heaviest on the little Champ amps by Fender from the middle to the late 50s.
PorchGhoul in Onstage_1 asks: Any chance of a Joe Perry video supporting this release? Robin, NC
aeroladyinminn in Onstage_1 asks: If you had to pick jsut one song to sum up the bands essence, what would it be? Robyn , MN
MSNLive_Star says: We're talking about doing that right now. Because of the time I'm going to have with the live band will be so short we will video tape as much as possible that will possibly turn into a live type of video.
MSNLive_Star says: "No Surprise" because the lyrics are so self descriptive and it just puts it out there, our philosophy and the faith we had. The blind, stupid faith. (laughs) Idealism of youth.
DishDiva says: Joe, thanks for taking the time this afternoon to chat with fans aboout your new self-titled CD.
DishDiva says: From all of us here on MSN, best of luck with this new project.
MSNLive_Star says: I'm so flattered that everyone signed on and are intereted in the project. I look at it as a couple of pages torn from my musical diary. It's a very person piece of work for me and it's the back workings of my mind, so I'm kind of anxious to see how
MSNLive_Star says: people like it. When I'm working for Aerosmith everyone wonders who does what, but with this record it's me, and have no one to blame it on if it goes south. (laughs)
