Aero Mojo, Rubs Off on Lester!

4 days after meeting Joey Kramer and Tom Hamilton at the opening of the Apple store on Boylston street in Boston, Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester pitched only the 4th no hitter this decade for the old towne team and became just the first lefty since Mel Parnell to do it for the Sox. Mel just said no, no in 1956. Catcher Jason Varitek who was also at the Apple store opening (and mingled with Boston’s rock royalty) has caught all of the last 4 Sox no-hitters. Lester's only early blemish was a walk to Billy Butler with one out in the second. There wouldn't be another base runner until the ninth when Lester walked Esteban German to lead off the inning. A groundout by Tony Pena served as the first out. David DeJesus put Lester on the precipice with a groundout to first baseman Kevin Youkilis. That reminds me. What do you get if you put David DeJesus, Joe Perry’s Mother and JP himself in a room all together? Lester was diagnosed with cancer in September of 2006. Jon joins famous major league pitchers such as old friends Randy Johnson and David Wells as well as Kenny “The Gambler” Rogers, David Cone, Nolan Ryan, Tom Seaver, Vida “not Pink but” Blue, Gaylord “ don’t call me Joe” Perry, Cy Young, Pud “yes, Pud” Galvin and the one and only Bobo Holloman. Bobo honked his no-hitter in May of 1953.

As my good friend once sang, Let’s Go Red Sox!

See ya at Fenway!
