Jimmy Page Wins Top Gong in Classic Rock Awards

The third Classic Rock Awards was held last week in London. The Oscar’s of Rock attracts rock legends from around the world to celebrate the best of classic rock for 2007.

The star of the show was Jimmy Page (with a band aid on his infamous pinky), who was given the prestigious Living Legend Award. Jimmy’s finger is the reason, of course, for the recent postponement of the Led Zeppelin Reunion Concert.

Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler presented him with a ’54 Les Paul Goldtop, with personal video messages from Les Paul, Robert Plant and Joe Perry. Backstage the guitar was signed by none other than Status Quo, Tony Iommi, Scott Ian from Anthrax and Alice Cooper, to name a few. It was then donated to Child Line to raise funds for the charity.

Rush received band of the year for their return to form, with their 2007 album, Snakes and Arrows. The Classic Album went to Meat Loaf for Bat Out of Hell, a man who isn’t doing so well at the moment, cancelling his European Tour due to illness.

The Best New Band Award went to southern rockers Black Stone Cherry. Album of the Year to the brilliant Porcupine Tree, proving yet again that they are the natural successors of Pink Floyd.

Come back of the Year went to Heaven and Hell, who are of course Black Sabbath, without Ozzy Osbourne, with the award for Metal Guru going to Tony Iommi.

Thanks to Classic Rock Magazine for continuing to keep the flame alive!
