Next Stop Dubai!!!!!

The guys finished up their tour of South America and Mexico last week and needless to say it was a huge success. Aerosmith played to an estimated 220,000 people for the 5 dates. Hopefully it won't be another 13 years before the guys make it down there again. I have a feeling the band will be back there real soon.

Steven and Joe spent 4 days in the LA sun while Brad, Joey and Tom headed back to Boston for a few days off before reconvening in Las Vegas. Brad took part in the Richard Petty Experience. He was clocked at about 160 mph. Steven spent the evening at the Hard Rock Hotel where they premiered a new Steven Tyler display. One of his suits from the last tour is up there now. Go check it out! The Vegas show was something else. It wasn’t your typical Aerosmith show. The guys played at Mandalay Bay for the first time for a charity concert for the Lili Claire foundation. Jason Alexander of Seinfeld fame was the MC. The guy’s love playing Vegas and this time Joe made it through the whole show with not so much as a scratch. The next day the guys flew back east with Steven getting dropped off in NYC while Joe, Tom and Joey went home to Boston. Brad flew to his home in Charlotte.

On Wednesday the guys officially finished up this leg of shows by taking part in the Robin Hood Foundation Gala and Auction at the Javits Center in NYC. Funnyman, Jon Stewart was the host of the event and it had some very heavy hitters in the media and entertainment field there. Ben Affleck, Michael Douglas, Tom Brokaw and perhaps the greatest quarterback in the history of football, Tom Brady was in attendance. As you all know Mr. Brady has 3 Super bowl rings and it’s only a matter of time before he surpasses Joe Montana in all categories. All right save the hate email, I’m just getting psyched for this years Patriots season and the debut of Randy Moss in a Pats uni. By the way, Steven auctioned off a chance to sing with Aerosmith and it fetched a mere $800,000 dollars split by two people. One of the winners Dee Dee Ricks helped Steven with Sweet Emotion while an unidentified winner was just happy with the Demon of Screamin’ belting out Walk this Way for the millionth time. Joe and Joey both sold off the instruments they used that night. Joey gave his DW drum set that he has had for the past few years and Joe gave up his beautiful Dan Armstrong guitar that takes a beaten every night during “Draw the Line” went home with some lucky winners. It was a great night for a great cause.

Family Affair in London:

Before you start having visions of Mister French, Buffy, Jody and Mrs. Beasley the bad boys from Boston will be joined at the Hyde Park show by former Space Hog and present son in law Royston Langdon’s band “Arckid.” Happy belated birthday Roy! Also on the bill on the second stage will Joe’s sons’ band TAB. Tony and Adrian Perry along with school chum Benz will make their debut on the other side of the pond at Hyde Park, but not before making a return engagement in the Peoples Republic of Cambridge Mass to play at TT the Bears Place on Saturday May 12th.

On a sad note, Aerosmith nation lost a true friend this week. Joann Pierce lost her battle with MS and Cancer. Joann and her husband Rick have been married for over 25 years. They are from the Buffalo area (Frewsburg, NY) and were soul mates in every sense. Joann was diagnosed with MS around the same time and eventually landed in a wheelchair. But it didn't stop her from going to as many shows as she could and meeting the band several times over the years. As her illness progressed, they planned a cruise, but instead they went on the West Coast Travel Package during the Get a Grip tour (1994). That trip changed their lives in the best possible ways. They made friends that remain to this day. The doctor, who had warned them the trip could be bad for her health, actually said it helped her. Over the years, they did so many trips to see the band. It was truly life changing.

Rick was a constant presence by her side; Meeting the band brought Joann so much joy.....her whole face lit up, her smile stretched from ear to ear.

This all just happened so quickly. Last week she was given two months to live. Today she is gone. She had been diagnosed with lung cancer two years ago. It came back with a mission. But she did go in peace. This NFTR is dedicated in the memory of Joann may she find peace and an IPOD full of A-Smith upstairs. Dream On!

Joe with Glen Hughes - Photo: Ross Halfin

What report wouldn’t be complete without a mention of our favorite Shutterbug Ross Halfin? Old Amber Ross was in LA last week shooting various people and being interviewed for an 80’s Canadian Metal band named “Anvil.” I needed an “Advil” after about 5 minutes of listening to him scream at the poor front desk girl at the hotel when she addressed him as Ross and not Mr. Halfin International Man of Misery. I mean Mystery. All joking aside Ross took some great shots of the hugely talented “Glenn Hughes.” Glenn and Joe ran into each other in the hotel patio and got caught up. Later Joe told me that Aerosmith (back in the 1325 days) used to listen to the Deep Purple albums “Machine Head” and “Burn” constantly. Glenn was the bass player on the “Burn” album.

Joe also spent some time with Jeff Beck at the pool of the hotel. Jeff was in town to perform with Kelly Clarkson at the American Idol show.

Next up the band will travel to Dubai, India and Europe. I’m sure there will be lots to talk about in the next report.

See You on the Road!

John B.

PS. Lisa Martineau contributed to this report. Not the Ross Halfin part. That was all me.
