News from the Middle East

It’s the calm before the storm.

The other day Joe and Joey jammed at Joe’s house for the afternoon. Just kinda getting the rust off and kicking around some riffs. I had a nice conversation with Steven about the set list for South America. We traded ideas. Looks like it will be slightly different than the last US/Canada tour. It may even include a Nine Lives tune or two. They won’t be reinventing the wheel here folks but a little mix up would make it exciting and edgy.

I have seen the future of Rock and Roll and their name is: TAB! Tony, Adrian and Ben. Tony and Adrian are Joe’s sons and Ben was in Tony’s first band. I saw them Sunday night at the Middle East Club in Cambridge. They played in the smaller room upstairs. Aerosmithistorians will remember the night in November of 1995 when the Bad Boys of Boston crossed the Chaahles Rivah to play downstairs to 1000 or so people that packed into the converted bowling alley. Well this time it was the Perry boys turn. With Adrian (professor Bizness’) on bass and lead vocals taking over as part carnival barker, part television evangelist. His in between song banter was clever and inspiring. He was the smartest dresser of the 3. He took swigs out of his Poland Springs bottle as frequently as Steven Tyler took swigs of Jack on the Rocks tour. Tony Perry was constantly chewing out a rhythm on his bubble gum and commanded the stage not like his famous Dad but more like Tom Morello from Rage. Ben the drummer kept the beat fresh and had an uncanny resemblance to a young Doogie Howzer. These guys were just plain awesome. It was their first show and the 100 or so people who comfortably packed the upstairs were treated with a great set of rock and roll. They even tossed in covers by Deep Purple (Highway Star) Aerosmith (Draw the Line) and Cheap Trick (Hello There). Their proud father was in attendance and nodded with approval after the set. TAB will be playing 2 shows in NYC on March 15 and March 25th. Go check them out and tell them I sent you. Also be sure to check them out on myspace.com/tabtheband.

The bad boys have set a date to reconvene at the end of the month to start rehearsing for the South America/Mexico dates. It looks like it will be a busy next few months for the guys so keep it here to get the latest news.

See you on the Road!

John B.
