Returning to extensive NASCAR coverage for the first time in six years is the main order of business for ESPN this year, say its executives.
To do that, it recorded a new theme song by a warhorse rock band. "We did two separate shoots with Aerosmith, one in Vegas and one in Connecticut," says Jed Drake, ESPN's senior vice president and executive producer of remote production.
"They have rewritten the song `Back in the Saddle,' and that will become akin to, in some fashion, what we've been able to achieve with Hank on `Monday Night Football.' It is very, very good."
Coverage debuts with the Busch Race at Daytona Feb. 17.
