Tyler and Co. Rock This Way

Whether he likes it or not, Keith Lockhart is having a rock 'n' roll summer.
First My Morning Jacket and then Aimee Mann sat in with him at Symphony Hall. Then, last night, Lockhart let Steven Tyler and Joe Perry take the reigns for a trio of Aerosmith tunes at the Fireworks Spectacular on the Esplanade....
Tyler and Perry threw down well enough.
Fresh from surgery on his pipes, Steven Tyler looked bronzed and healthy. He and Perry took the Pops through "I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing," "Dream On," for which Tyler played the intro on piano, and "Walk this Way," which Lockhart joined in for a few bars. The Pops worked double time to underscore the signature guitar riff of the latter, following Perry’s lead.
Overall, Tyler sounded like he’s made a full recovery. His voice still has all the power it used to, evident in his trademark screech. What might be missing is a bit of the precision it once possessed, but that’s something that fades with age. And when all is said and done, he can always fall back on that Jagger swagger he’s got down so well - it always bring the fans out in droves.
Oh yeah, and afterwards, there were some fireworks.
