Fire and spice light up a spirited Fourth

Boston Globe, MA
July 5, 2006

Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith performed at the Hatch Shell last night.
(William Moore for the Boston Globe)

....People came from all over the world, more than 500,000 strong, for one of America's biggest and most famous Independence Day celebrations, braving threatening weather and the sheer crush of humanity for a red, white, and blue themed evening with the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and Boston legends Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, topped with a fireworks display involving 19,000 pounds of pyrotechnics....

Keith Lockhart, conductor of the Boston Pops, seemed quite at home with the pop stars, hamming it up at the microphone with Tyler during rehearsals on Monday. "What could be more iconically American than rock 'n' roll?" Lockhart said before the concert. "Arguably, Boston's two most famous bands are the Pops and Aerosmith."

Last night, Tyler and Perry drew thunderous applause as they played several hits including "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing," "Dream On," and "Walk This Way...."
