...The Axis screening was followed by an enjoyable Q&A session with Hendrix’s bassist Billy Cox and his recording engineer Eddie Kramer....
Cox then took the stage with a handful of guests for a 90-minute tribute set. A longtime Hendrix disciple, Memphis guitarist Eric Gales, opened with a "Foxey Lady" that crossed Hendrix tones with modern metal. Ex-Earth, Wind & Fire guitarist Sheldon Reynolds gave a funkier slant; and things livened up again when Aerosmith’s Brad Whitford joined for a three-way guitar duel on "Spanish Castle Magic" and "Red House."
Cox and ex-Stevie Ray Vaughan drummer Chris Layton formed a killer rhythm section, reining in the jams when they started to wander. It was one of the most capable Hendrix tribute bands anyone’s likely to see....
