Steven Tyler to undergo surgery - Tour dates cancelled

Billboard, NY
March 22, 2006

Aerosmith has been forced to cancel the remaining dates on its spring tour with Cheap Trick. Although a spokeswoman could not confirm details, sources tell Billboard.com lead singer Steven Tyler will have to undergo throat surgery and will be placed on total vocal rest for an extended period of time.

The band played a handful of shows earlier this month but Tyler's condition did not improve and he was advised by doctors to take immediate action. The tour was to continue... (March 21) in London, Ontario, and had dates on tap through April 15 in Sacramento, California. Refunds will be available from points of purchase.

Aerosmith's next order of business will be the start of work on its next studio album, for which there is no timetable....

From: Reuters via Yahoo! News

"...Tyler, who turns 58 on Sunday, will be unable to sing for two to three months following the operation. The spokeswoman declined to elaborate on his condition..."

From: IGN, CA

"...dates are being scrapped so that charismatic frontman Steven Tyler can undergo surgery... The band -- Tyler, Joe Perry, Brad Whitford, Tom Hamilton, and Joey Kramer -- apologize and regret the inconvenience this may cause their fans.

Despite the extended (and undetermined) hiatus, the band have every intention of re-scheduling the tour dates as well as getting back in the studio to work on new material."
