Sellers' market for hot live acts
...But popular performers usually call the tune, especially in rock and pop. They typically generate far more sales per concert than do performers in other genres, including R&B, hip-hop, country and Latin.
And the demand for hot acts seems to outweigh the supply.
"There aren't a lot of great bands out there that can put on a great rock show," says Aerosmith's Joe Perry. "They didn't come up in that environment, in that era before MTV where you really had to be a good live band."
Fans also don't have to settle for a mediocre show. "There are a lot of other kinds of acts and other things people can spend their money on now," Perry says....
